Teaching Teens How to Make Cards

I was asked to teach teens how to make cards as a part of their community service hours. A far cry from folding construction paper, doodling and calling it a card (so sweet though when you receive one), I used Stampin' Up! supplies, like the brights cardstock, for their upcoming speaker while the other cards were for hospitalized children

These are my card making stations, and all include Stamp Set with acrylic blocks and Ink Spots, Whisper White stamping paper, and copyright "Created By" --- and the teens handwrote "Teens from the Brookfield."

#1 How to Make a Card Base
  • 11x8.5 heavy white yardstick
  • Trimmer
  • Bone Folder
  • Embellishments for last card: Ribbon, Stickles, Markers, Colored pencils, Stickers, Pre-cut patterned paper, and Envelopes
We spoke about card making basics at station 1, like how to use letter sized cardstock and cut it into a card base. I provided guidelines for making card for hospitalized children.

#2  "Be The Star" Card - Thank You to Our Military
  • "Be The Star" Stamp Set
  • Big Shot for die cut "Stars Framelits" Die
  • Yellow Stickles (probally the only thing that is non-SU)
  • Brights Red or Blue cardstock choices for card front
This station included a demonstration on how to use the Big Shot die cutting machine -- allowing them to cut stamped stars and choose how many that they want on their card. I did this one first because right after our class, a military representative was to be speaking, and they needed to finish his card first.

#3 Shine "Sunburst Sayings" Card - Cheerful Cards
  • "Starburst Thinlits" die precut
  • "Sunburst Sayings" Stamp Set
  • Pre-cut "Festive Birthday" patterned paper choices

#4 You are a Work of Art - Creative Stamping
  • "Work of Art" Stamp Set
  • Smaller card fronts for stamped images
  • Pre-cut "Festive Birthday" patterned paper choices

#5 Freestyle Cards
This a freestyle card, where they apply what they just learned about card making, and use any of the Stamping' Up! supplies and other supplies donated by our community. Also, this is where the "Created By" copyright stations was placed.

Love you a Latte Card

Here's my "Love You a Latte" card, using the Cricut, for Coffee-Loving Papercrafters. It is just a sweet diecut that hopefully will brighten my swap partner's day. I am also submitting it for the http://coffeelovingcardmakers.com/2016/06/summer-coffee-lovers-blog-hop-2/

Vintage Beach Babes Cards

I made some vintage Beach Babe cards. My friend, Christina, had given me a few vintage pics a few years ago -- and i finally used them. First I mounted them on ATCs that I distressed and hooked round jewelry shells with mini safty pins. Then I mounted them onto Tim Holtz patterned papers, my go-to for vintage papers. I mounted them onto distressed matts. I think these girls look beautiful -- and modest by today's standards, although they may have not looked so back then!

Creative Chalet Swap "Pop of Pink" Thank You Cards

Here's a few of my swap cards for my upline's Creative Chalet team. I love the bold colors in this DSP. I used Stampin' Up!'s New Pop of Pink Designer Series Papers, "Thoughtful Banners" stamp set and the coordinating paper punch: "Duet Banner." I also had fun making twinchies mounted on a trinchie with new Layering Squares Framelits dies -- adding a torn strips of New Pop of Pink washi tape.

I hope that the team likes these cards -- and can't wait to get theirs too. I also am giving them some Pop of Pink DSP, shhh...
